Although Cindy does not come from the design world (she is a retired administrative assistant from Cal Poly and has also worked in New Zealand urban area government), interior design has been a lifelong hobby. Bill runs a computer animation business. Still, the prospect of selling French household goods wasn’t at all foreign to them.
“When I became interested in interior design, I read a lot about furniture and antiques,” said Cindy. “It seems all of the pieces I liked were French. A lot of antiques are very utilitarian-looking, but French pieces all seem to have a gracefulness and facility to them.”
The Juliens had purchased the antiques on trips to France, where they attended auctions and estate sales. The collection is all the way-ranging, from rustic French country to art deco to gilt and highly ornamented pieces. There are even a few English antiques that were acquired in France, as well as lighting, mirrors, china and antique books.
