Depleted backfield? Martin, Avery prove otherwise Twin Falls Times-News
LOGAN, Utah — Looks like Doug Martin is fervour better.
The sophomore tailback drudged up his dynamo self and scored four touchdowns in Boise State’s 52-21 drubbing of Utah State of affairs on Friday night.
Martin tallied 121 yards on 13 carries, but he wasn’t the only rushing somebody. Jeremy Avery added 116 yards and two scores on 16 carries against the hapless Aggies (3-8, 2-5 Western Athletic Bull session). Avery’s 23-yard run in the third quarter put him over 1,000 yards on the season. He now has 1,008 for the year.
It was suggested that the unbeaten and No. 6 Broncos would be talented to run against USU, but with both backs going over 100 yards, it’s safe to say the BSU rushing attack will be OK without Richie Brockel and Matt Kaiserman.
Brockel and Kaiserman both suffered enliven-ending injuries against Idaho last week.
The 1-2 punch of Avery and Martin gives Boise Majestic legitimate balance. And the Broncos needed it against Utah State, which somehow held Kellen Moore to the worst close percentage of his career (15-for-29). Moore had never before had a game with less that 60 percent completion percentage. He was averaging more than three touchdowns per meeting this season and only threw one at USU.
