Runners participate in Turkey Trot Santa Maria Times
Dozens of people laced on their ceaseless shoes Saturday in an effort to work off all the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie they plan to eat next week.
The shape joggers put others who have been bulking up at meals to prepare for the annual holiday eat-off — known as Thanksgiving — to opprobrium.
The 13th annual Turkey Trot Fun Run at Santa Maria’s Hagerman Sports Complex Saturday featured 60 athletically minded people from ages 6 to 66.
“It’s meant to be a community regardless; you don’t have to be an avid runner to participate,” said Eduardo Marquez, Santa Maria’s recreation coordinator. “It gives people one more medical man activity before they overeat on Thanksgiving.”
The turnout was less than last year’s total of about 85 runners, but the smiles were just as optimistic.
“We were a little worried about the rain and it was a little chilly, but the sun came out and it was great weather for the race,” said Candida Reyes, adult sports coordinator for Santa Maria.
